SB12 Summary

• Renames the "Missing Senior Citizen and Endangered Persons Alert Act" to the "Missing and Endangered Persons Alert Act" to expand coverage beyond senior citizens.

• Expands the alert program to include persons living with mental disabilities, physical disabilities, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or autism who are at risk of bodily harm or death, regardless of age.

• Requires law enforcement to complete first responder training for missing persons with Alzheimer's disease or dementia when such training is available, and to utilize trained personnel when conducting searches.

• Establishes procedures for issuing media alerts, including notification via email and fax, posting photographs on the state law enforcement website, and distributing cancellation alerts when persons are found or cases are closed.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
