SB188 Summary

• Amends Section 12-17-220.1 of the Code of Alabama 1975 regarding district attorney appointments of investigators.

• Provides that district attorney appointments of investigators shall not be subject to any county civil service system provided by local law or otherwise.

• Establishes that investigators appointed by the district attorney must serve at the pleasure of the district attorney and meet minimum law enforcement standards with current Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission certification.

• Specifies that the new provision supersedes any conflicting local law relating to district attorney investigator appointments.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
