• Amends Section 13A-6-21 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to clarify that assault in the second degree applies to both volunteer and paid firefighters.

• Adds explicit language "whether volunteer or paid" to the statute defining the crime of assault in the second degree when a person intentionally prevents a firefighter from performing a lawful duty.

• Maintains assault in the second degree as a Class C felony.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval, or upon becoming law by other means.
