SB215 Summary

• Changes the timing for all runoff municipal elections and runoff special primary elections from varying schedules to a uniform four weeks after the regular election.

• Amends Sections 11-46-6, 11-46-21, and 11-46-55 of the Code of Alabama to replace "three weeks" and "sixth Tuesday" language with "four weeks" for Class 5 cities and municipal elections.

• Amends Section 17-13-3 to standardize runoff special primary elections to be held four weeks (on the fourth Tuesday) following the special primary election.

• Makes nonsubstantive technical revisions to update code language to current style, including replacing "persons" with "individuals" and "such" with "the" throughout affected sections.

• Effective date: January 1, 2021, upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon becoming law.
