SB234 Summary

• Amends Sections 8-1A-17 and 8-1A-18 of the Alabama Uniform Electronic Transactions Act to authorize municipalities to use electronic records and signatures in conducting municipal affairs.

• Allows each municipality's governing body to determine by ordinance whether municipal agencies and departments shall create, retain, and convert written records to electronic records.

• Permits municipalities to determine by ordinance whether municipal agencies shall send, accept, and use electronic records and electronic signatures in communications and internal processes.

• Authorizes municipalities using electronic records to establish security standards including creation/storage formats, electronic signature requirements, and control procedures for preservation, integrity, and auditability of records.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
