SB 306 Summary

• Establishes the Elections Emergency Act to create procedures for suspending or delaying elections during declared states of emergency.

• Authorizes the Governor to suspend or delay any election upon declaring a state of emergency or imminent threat of emergency, independently or upon request from the Secretary of State, county judge of probate, or municipal clerk.

• Requires rescheduled elections to be held within 21 calendar days of the suspended or delayed election date, with notice published in newspapers and broadcast on media when practicable.

• Allows county commissions or municipal governing bodies to establish additional polling places outside affected precincts when a state of emergency is declared on election day.

• Directs the Secretary of State to adopt an elections emergency contingency plan containing procedures for suspension/delay notification, orderly rescheduled elections, and release of election returns.
