SB335 Summary

• Eliminates the requirement for registered voters to provide an excuse to vote by absentee ballot in Alabama primary, general, special, or municipal elections.

• Removes eight specific qualifying criteria (out-of-county travel, illness, work shifts, student status, military service, election officer appointment, caregiver status, and incarcerated status) as prerequisites for absentee voting.

• Maintains the 5-day advance application requirement and allows absentee voting by mail, hand delivery, or commercial carrier as determined by the Secretary of State.

• Preserves emergency absentee ballot provisions for unforeseen circumstances within 5 days of elections and state of emergency rules.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
