AL SB6

Amends Section 36-21-46 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to expand education requirements for law enforcement officer applicants.

Allows graduation from nonpublic education programs to satisfy the education component for applicants, including private schools, church schools, parochial schools, religious schools, and home-school programs.

Previously required applicants to be graduates of State Department of Education accredited or approved high schools or to possess a high school equivalency certificate from general educational development.

Maintains all other existing qualifications including minimum age of 19 years, required training completion, physical fitness certification, good moral character, and prohibition on felony convictions.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
