SB 73 Summary

• Authorizes the Alabama Board of Nursing to access the controlled substances prescription database maintained by the Department of Public Health.

• Board of Nursing access is limited to investigations and disciplinary activities concerning nursing licensees, including monitoring their prescribing and dispensing of controlled substances.

• Board of Nursing may also access database information to monitor controlled substances prescribed to or dispensed to nursing licensees.

• Makes technical and nonsubstantive revisions to update code language to current style, changing "persons" to "individuals" and "regulations" to "rule."

• Bill becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
