A fire occurred on January 27, 2020 at 12:40 a.m. at the Jackson County Park Marina in Scottsboro, Alabama, resulting in eight deaths and ranking as one of the most tragic fire events in the state in the past 50 years.

Multiple agencies responded including the Scottsboro Fire Department, Scottsboro/Jackson County Rescue Squad, Scottsboro Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Highlands EMS, Jackson County EMA, Guntersville Fire Department, and Union Rescue Squad in Marshall County.

First responders rescued seven victims through their courageous and valiant efforts, preventing additional fatalities.

The Alabama Legislature honors and commends all first responders and others involved for their dedication, courage, professionalism, self-sacrifice, and compassion in responding to this emergency.

State and federal organizations, the Jackson County community, and private businesses joined together to provide support, assist with cleanup, investigation, and local recovery efforts.
