Commends Mr. Wendell Hudson, University of Alabama's first Black scholarship-athlete, for having his jersey number retired at halftime of an Alabama-LSU basketball game at Coleman Coliseum.

Jersey number 20 will remain displayed in the coliseum rafters with conference championship banners; future players may still wear the number, and a men's basketball scholarship has been endowed in his honor.

Hudson scored 1,768 points and grabbed 1,197 rebounds in 93 games during his college career (1969-1973), averaging 19.0 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.

Named First Team All-American in 1973 after averaging 20.7 points and 12.1 rebounds as a senior; became Alabama's first Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, leading the league in scoring.

Selected in the second round of the 1973 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls; honored as SEC Legend in 2000, received Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award, and inducted into Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
