This resolution mourns the death of Elmer B. Harris, who died on December 23, 2019, at age 80.

Mr. Harris earned degrees in Electrical Engineering and a Master's in Business Administration from Auburn University and served on Auburn's Foundation Board and Alumni Board.

He had a 44-year career with Southern Company and its subsidiaries, serving as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alabama Power, and was instrumental in bringing Mercedes Benz to Alabama.

His notable accomplishments included helping establish the Elmer and Glenda Harris Early Learning Center, serving as Honorary Consul General to Japan, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard, and being inducted into the Alabama Business Hall of Fame in 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda Steele Harris, two children, eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, and two brothers.
