HB203 Summary

• Amends Alabama Open Meetings Act Section 36-25A-2 to expand the definition of "deliberation" to include exchanges of information or ideas "in the presence of" a quorum of governmental body members intended to influence voting decisions, not just exchanges occurring directly between members.

• Expands the definition of "meeting" to include any gathering where a quorum of a governmental body members "hear deliberation" on matters expected to come before the body, whether or not the members themselves actively deliberate.

• Makes technical and nonsubstantive revisions to update code language to current style throughout the statute.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and Governor approval.
