AL HB25

Defines "work release" as participation by an inmate in paid or unpaid employment away from a correctional institution, accompanied or unaccompanied by a correctional officer.

Requires inmates convicted of violent offenses involving death, serious physical injury, or forcible compulsion to wear electronic monitoring as a condition of work release participation.

Designates the Department of Corrections as responsible for all costs associated with electronic monitoring of eligible inmates.

Makes technical and nonsubstantive revisions to update code language, including replacing references to "Board" with "Department" throughout the statute.

Becomes effective October 1, 2021, following passage and approval by the Governor.
