HB312 Summary

• Precinct election officials must be registered voters in their county but are no longer required to be registered at the specific precinct where they serve.

• First priority may still be given to appointing poll workers and alternate poll workers who are registered voters at their respective precincts, provided they are qualified.

• Alternate poll worker positions are expanded based on county population: up to 4 alternates in counties under 100,000; up to 12 in counties with 100,000-250,000; and up to 24 in counties over 250,000.

• Terminology changed throughout the statute from "poll workers" to "precinct election officials" for consistency and clarity.

• Act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
