Nursing mothers may request exemption from jury service by submitting a written request to the jury commission in their county.

The Administrative Office of Courts must adopt an exemption form for nursing mothers to file with the appropriate jury commission, exempting them from jury duty for one year.

Nursing mothers must submit their exemption request within 10 days of receiving the jury summons.

A woman may use this exemption multiple times throughout her nursing period, with no limit on the number of times she may request it while nursing.

The exemption does not affect a nursing mother's right to one automatic postponement under existing Alabama law (Section 12-16-63.1, Code of Alabama 1975).
