County or city superintendents may order temporary closure of public K-12 schools, cessation of extracurricular activities, and implementation of online instruction for up to 10 consecutive school days during extreme circumstances involving extenuating conditions.

Closure of a physical school location, cessation of extracurricular and school-sanctioned activities, and online learning for more than 10 consecutive school days requires approval from the applicable local board of education.

The bill's provisions cannot be suspended by orders, rules, or regulations adopted under the Alabama Emergency Management Act of 1955.

The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
