HB482 Summary

• Increases the number of city council districts in Class 5 municipalities from six to seven districts.

• Requires candidates for city council or mayor to be a resident of the district they seek to represent for at least 365 consecutive days immediately before the qualifying deadline and be a qualified elector.

• Requires each council member and mayor to reside in the district they represent during their entire term of office.

• Maintains the municipality governance structure of one mayor and one at-large council member, plus six single-member district council members.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
