HB483 Summary

• Amends Section 34-21A-10 of the Alabama Code to exempt distributors of septic tanks and onsite sewage systems from Alabama Onsite Wastewater Board licensure and regulation.

• Exempts owners of multiple wastewater systems or systems under common ownership with a design flow of 15,000 gallons per day (GPD) or greater from board licensing and regulation.

• Exempts state-licensed general contractors with municipal and utility endorsement from board regulation when installing or maintaining wastewater systems with design flows of 15,000 GPD or greater.

• Retains existing exemption for property owners installing, cleaning, servicing, or maintaining onsite sewage systems on their own primary residence without outside help.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
