HB501 Summary

• Establishes a waiver process for five Alabama occupational licensing boards: Alabama Board of Electrical Contractors, State Licensing Board for General Contractors, Board of Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors, Home Builders Licensure Board, and State of Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board.

• Allows employing entities and their employed licensees to continue operations on a temporary basis when the designated qualifying representative, license holder, or certificate holder dies or becomes mentally or physically incapacitated.

• Requires a written waiver request to be submitted to the applicable occupational licensing board within 45 days of death or incapacity; requests submitted after 45 days may be denied after a show cause hearing.

• Limits waiver validity to a maximum of 135 days from the date of death or incapacitation of the designated qualifying representative, license holder, or certificate holder.

• Allows each occupational licensing board to impose a waiver fee equal to one-half of the total renewal fee for the license or certificate and to adopt implementing rules.
