HB 601 Summary

• Requires 911 operators at Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) to remain on emergency calls with callers until they are connected with the appropriate emergency service provider.

• Mandates that each communications district board of commissioners select one or more reasonable alternative methods for responding to emergency calls in case the primary method fails or becomes temporarily unavailable.

• The reasonable alternative method may include methods not specifically enumerated in existing law (direct dispatch, relay, transfer, or referral methods).

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
