HB75 Summary

• Requires the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) to provide a mandatory standalone Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) program for all law enforcement trainees by January 1, 2022.

• Law enforcement officers certified prior to January 1, 2022 must complete the CIT program by January 1, 2023.

• The CIT program shall be developed in collaboration with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Alabama and modeled according to NAMI Alabama's existing program standards.

• The commission must annually review and update the training to include changes and trends in crisis intervention.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
