HB79 Summary

• Reopens the State Police Tier II Plan to any employee of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency who is certified by the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission and performs law enforcement duties.

• Allows Tier II plan members employed as state policemen to retire after 25 years of creditable service without reduction in retirement allowance.

• Grants Tier II plan members employed as state policemen one year of hazardous duty time credit for every five years of service as a state policeman.

• Clarifies that employees of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency who are certified by the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission and perform law enforcement duties are considered "state policemen" for retirement purposes and shall receive the same employee contribution rates and benefits as other Tier II law enforcement officers.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
