Notes Smitherman was born March 11, 1935, and is survived by his wife of 45 years (Lelia P. Smitherman), three children, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Commends Smitherman for his work ethic, humility, and regard for the Alabama House of Representatives as an extension of his family upon his retirement.

House adopted the resolution on March 9, 2021, and the Senate adopted it on March 11, 2021.
