HJR146 - Commendation of Dr. Tony G. Waldrop

• Commends Dr. Tony G. Waldrop, the third President of The University of South Alabama, for his seven-year tenure and dedicated service to the university and state.

• Recognizes Waldrop's five institutional priorities: student access and success, research and graduate education enhancement, health care excellence, global engagement, and university-community engagement.

• Acknowledges his accomplishments including enrollment of highest-achieving freshman classes, launch of Pathway USA partnership with community colleges, opening of USA's Honors College, and completion of a capital campaign that raised over $160 million.

• Highlights expansion of USA Health with dozens of new physicians and practices, increased research awards to over $100 million by 2020, and infrastructure improvements including the MacQueen Alumni Center, Simulation Lab Building, Fanny Meisler Trauma Center, and Hancock Whitney Stadium.

• Recognizes Waldrop's retirement effective summer 2021, with plans to relocate to North Carolina where his wife accepted a position as Assistant Dean for the School of Nursing at Duke University.
