AL HJR211

Creates the Joint Interim Legislative Committee on the Recompilation of the Constitution to assist in revising the Alabama Constitution of 1901 as required by voter-ratified constitutional amendment Act 2019-271.

Committee composition includes 3 House members appointed by the Speaker (one being Act 2019-271's sponsor), 2 public members appointed by the Speaker, 3 Senate members appointed by the President Pro Tempore (one from minority party), and 2 public members appointed by the President Pro Tempore.

Committee must arrange the constitution, remove racist language, delete duplicative and repealed sections, consolidate economic development provisions, and arrange local amendments by county of application during the 2022 Regular Session.

Director of the Legislative Services Agency shall call the first meeting on or before July 1, 2021; committee members elect chair and vice chair; legislative members receive regular compensation, per diem, and travel expenses according to Amendment 871.

Committee may hold public meetings throughout the state to receive testimony on proposed revisions and dissolves upon sine die of the 2022 Regular Session.
