The Alabama House of Representatives honors Joseph Charles Borden and Sylvia Louise Sanford Borden on their 60th wedding anniversary on June 11, 2021.

Charles and Sylvia met at a Methodist Church retreat in July 1956 and married on June 11, 1961, at St. James Methodist Church in Montgomery.

Charles served as an Army officer (2nd and 1st Lieutenant) and worked with the Internal Revenue Service for 34 years before retiring in 1995; the couple has three daughters, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The Bordens relocated to Lake Martin in 1995 where they converted their weekend cabin into a permanent home and spent their retirement years traveling, serving the community, and supporting their family.

The resolution recognizes their marriage as a devoted example worthy of honor and celebrates their legacy of faith, family, and community service.
