SB108 Summary

• Removes requirement that the Adjutant General be an active National Guard officer with prior line position experience; instead requires 15 years cumulative National Guard service and 5 years as commissioned active officer, plus residency in Alabama, age 40-65 at appointment.

• Adjutant General compensated monthly at the pay rate corresponding to their valid commission rank, including all pay, subsistence allowances, and housing allowances.

• General officers appointed by Governor with Senate advice and consent serve until adjournment of next regular legislative session; if not confirmed, position becomes vacant and subject to reappointment.

• Governor may submit an officer for Senate confirmation as general officer at any time regardless of vacancy; confirmation expires at conclusion of final legislative session of the quadrennium if officer not appointed by then.

• Act becomes effective immediately upon passage and Governor approval.
