SB186 Summary

• Authorizes the Alabama Board of Nursing to access the controlled substances database upon good cause shown to the State Health Officer for investigations or disciplinary actions involving nurses.

• Allows Board of Nursing to receive information concerning licensees who prescribe controlled substances or are prescribed controlled substances when subject to investigation or disciplinary activity.

• Permits other certifying boards, state and federal law enforcement agencies, and authorized entities to share controlled substances database information with the Board of Nursing for licensees under investigation or disciplinary review.

• Makes technical and nonsubstantive revisions to update existing code language to current style, including changing "regulations" to "rule" and "persons" to "individuals."

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
