SB206 Summary

• Amends Section 12-15-134 of the Alabama Code to regulate when juvenile law enforcement records may be released and to whom.

• Expands access to juvenile law enforcement records to include school principals or their representatives upon written petition to juvenile court demonstrating necessity for school safety or student welfare.

• Creates new protections for photographs, likeness, and personal identifying information in law enforcement records of persons charged under Section 12-15-204, making such information non-public prior to conviction unless a court orders release in interest of the person charged, public safety, or national security.

• Allows attorneys to disclose confidential law enforcement records relating to clients as needed to investigate cases or prepare defenses, provided disclosure furthers legal representation.

• Changes reporting requirement from "Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center" to "State Law Enforcement Agency" for delinquency charges involving felonies or misdemeanors.
