SB226 Summary

• Amends Section 38-7-2 of the Alabama Code to expand the defined types of foster family homes.

• Establishes "Traditional foster family home" for children not related to the foster family, providing family care and training on a full-time basis.

• Establishes "Related foster family home" for families related to the child by blood, marriage, or adoption within the fourth degree of kinship (including siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and stepparents).

• Establishes "Free home" for foster families (related or unrelated) that do not receive payment for child care and may or may not receive children for adoption purposes.

• Establishes "Therapeutic foster family home" providing therapeutic family care and training on a full-time basis.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
