SB236 Summary

• All distinctive license plates created by legislation shall be subject to approval and oversight of the Legislative Oversight Committee on License Plates under five-year reissuance and recertification provisions.

• Sponsoring organizations must submit an initial application fee equal to the cost of producing the distinctive license plate template, not to exceed $100, effective January 1, 2022.

• The Legislative Oversight Committee is authorized to approve applications from groups within high schools, junior colleges, universities, and technical schools (including band boosters and athletic boosters) upon receiving written approval from the affiliated educational institution.

• No distinctive license plate shall be issued after five consecutive years in which the plate has not met reissuance requirements, except for military or veteran related plates and Alabama Gold Star Family plates.

• The bill becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
