SB284 Summary

• Amends Section 17-7-23 of the Alabama Code to require that any approved electronic vote counting system must use a paper ballot marked and inspected by the voter prior to casting and counting the vote.

• Paper ballots may be marked either by hand or by a disability accessible ballot marking device.

• Electronic vote counting systems must meet both Federal Election Commission performance and test standards and the new paper ballot requirement to receive approval from the Alabama Electronic Voting Committee.

• Makes technical and nonsubstantive revisions to update existing code language to current style.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
