SB3 Summary

• Local boards of education must adopt policies requiring "The Star-Spangled Banner" to be broadcast at the commencement of each school-sanctioned sporting event, with an exception allowing schools to broadcast it at only one event if multiple events occur on the same day at the same location.

• Public K-12 schools must broadcast or perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" at least once per week during school hours.

• Schools may select recordings from the Library of Congress website or alternatively perform the anthem using original sheet music from the Library of Congress through school-sanctioned band programs, chorale programs, vocal groups, or vocalists.

• Schools may allow attendees to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" together, led by a vocalist selected by the school principal.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval or when otherwise becoming law.
