SB31 Summary

• Changes runoff elections for Class 5 cities from three weeks to four weeks after the original election, per Section 11-46-6.

• Modifies municipal runoff elections to be held on the fourth Tuesday following the regular election instead of the sixth Tuesday, per Section 11-46-21 and 11-46-55.

• Establishes that runoff special primary elections shall be held on the fourth Tuesday following the special primary election, per Section 17-13-3.

• Makes nonsubstantive technical revisions to update existing code language to current style, including replacing outdated terminology such as "persons" with "individuals" and "several" with appropriate modern language.

• Becomes effective January 1, 2022, following passage and approval by the Governor.
