SB387 Summary

• Amends Section 16-6F-10 of the Alabama School Choice and Student Opportunity Act to revise operational funding methods for public charter schools.

• Establishes that start-up public charter schools receive Foundation Program funding for basic student needs during startup and planned growth years in the same manner as newly formed non-charter public schools.

• Requires state funds to be forwarded on a monthly basis (changed from quarterly) to public charter schools by the department, and local funds to be forwarded monthly by the local school system.

• Directs the state to pay directly to public charter schools any federal or state special education aid attributable to students with disabilities attending the school.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
