Amends Section 13A-6-21 of the Alabama Code to clarify that the term "firefighter" in assault in the second degree statutes includes both volunteer and paid firefighters.

Makes it a Class C felony to intentionally cause physical injury to a firefighter (whether volunteer or paid) with intent to prevent them from performing a lawful duty.

Applies the same assault protections to firefighters as already existed for peace officers, detention or correctional officers, emergency medical personnel, and utility workers.

Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
