SB45 Summary

• Authorizes the Secretary of State to conduct a one-time post-election pilot audit following the November 8, 2022 general election to verify election accuracy, known as the Alabama Voter Confidence Pilot Act.

• Audit must be conducted between November 30, 2022, and January 31, 2023, in three counties selected to reflect racial, urban/rural, and economic diversity (one each in north, central, and south Alabama), with consent from county commissions and judges of probate.

• Audit covers only one statewide office selected by the Secretary of State and one county office in each of the three selected counties, with poll workers appointed in the same manner as for regular elections.

• Secretary of State may issue written orders to judges of probate and sheriffs to open ballot boxes and provide election materials for the audit and for pre-audit preparation and organization.

• All county expenses are reimbursed from federal funds available to the Secretary of State, and audit results must be posted on courthouse doors and the Secretary of State's official website.
