SB5 Summary

• Repeals seven sections of Alabama Code relating to concealed weapons, pistol carrying on private property, wildlife management area firearm restrictions, and pistol permit requirements.

• Amends Section 13A-11-61.2 to specify locations where firearms remain prohibited without express permission, including police/sheriff stations, prisons, detention facilities, psychiatric facilities, courthouses, and school/professional athletic events.

• Allows firearms in sheriff's offices that issue pistol permits if the firearm remains locked in a vehicle, and permits permit holders to carry firearms at school and professional athletic events.

• Requires posted notices at public entrances of prohibited locations and defines security standards for facilities with continuous on-site guards and magnetometers that may restrict firearms.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
