Amends Section 12-17-220.1 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to exempt district attorney investigators from county civil service systems.

Establishes that chief investigators and additional investigators appointed by district attorneys shall serve at the pleasure of the district attorney and not be subject to any county civil service system provided by local law.

Requires all investigators to be peace officers meeting minimum law enforcement standards and holding current certification from the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission.

Preserves existing local laws enacted before or after June 9, 2011, allowing district attorneys to appoint investigators under local acts, which may continue until expressly repealed.

Effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
