SB90 Summary

• Repeals the prohibition preventing the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama from assigning circuit or district judges from Jefferson County to serve in other judicial circuits.

• Repeals the prohibition preventing the presiding judge of Jefferson County from assigning circuit or district court judges within the county to serve in other circuits or district courts within the county.

• Amends Sections 12-9A-7 and 12-9A-8 of the Alabama Code to make judge assignment provisions applicable to Jefferson County, matching provisions already in effect for other counties.

• Requires the Supreme Court of Alabama to amend Rule 13 of the Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration to conform with these changes.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
