SJR2 Summary

• Commends the Scrap Recyclers Association of Alabama and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries and their members for their essential roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Recognizes Alabama's recycling industry as essential businesses and workers that maintained operations safely while supporting manufacturers' access to raw materials needed for steel, paper, electronics, aluminum, plastics, textiles, tires, and glass production.

• Credits recyclers with diverting hundreds of thousands of recyclable materials (automobiles, scrap metal, electronics, paper, glass, plastics, rubber, textiles, and tires) from landfills and converting them into raw materials used by manufacturers worldwide.

• Acknowledges specific contributions including supplying used auto parts for repairs, providing refurbished mobile technology devices for education and remote work, and processing plastic and fiber products for essential goods like hospital gowns, tissue products, and food packaging.

• Directs that copies of the resolution be distributed to members of the Scrap Recyclers Association of Alabama and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.
