HB2 Summary

• Repeals and reenacts Section 29-1-1.2 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to establish new House districts for the Alabama House of Representatives.

• Divides Alabama into 105 House Districts as designated by the map identified as "Pringle House Plan 4" prepared by the Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment.

• Requires the Legislature to post the adopted map and any alternative maps introduced during the legislative session on its public website for viewing.

• Mandates the House Clerk to transmit the certified map and boundary descriptions to the Secretary of State for certification and posting on the state's public website, with the certified map prevailing over census tract descriptions in case of conflict.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor and includes a severability clause protecting the act if any part is declared invalid or unconstitutional.
