Honors Police Officer Sergeant James Nicholas "Nick" Risner of Florence, Alabama, who died in the line of duty on October 2, 2021, at age 40.

Sergeant Risner was struck by hostile gunfire while responding to a report of a victim in the roadway and pursuing a suspect; he suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later succumbed to his injuries.

Sergeant Risner served as a K-9 Officer with the Sheffield Police Department beginning in 2012 and previously served 8 years in the United States Army Reserve.

He is survived by his wife Brandy, daughter Aili, parents Carl and Vicki Risner, and extended family; he was preceded in death by grandparents James and June McDonald and brothers Anthony Ray and Terrell.

The Alabama House of Representatives honors and commemorates Sergeant Risner's devoted service and sacrifice on behalf of the citizens of Alabama.
