Commends Reverend Esau McCaulley, Ph.D., for outstanding professional achievements and work in the faith community as an influential theologian.

McCaulley is an assistant professor of New Testament at Wheaton College in Illinois whose research focuses on Pauline theology and the intersection of race, Christian identity, and the pursuit of justice.

His book "Reading While Black: African American Biblical Interpretation as an Exercise in Hope" was published by IVP Academic on September 1, 2020, and won Christianity Today's book of the year award.

McCaulley regularly writes on issues of black history, theology, and culture in the Washington Post, The New York Times, The Religious News Service, and Christianity Today.

He is married to Mandy, a pediatrician and U.S. Navy reservist, and together they have four children.
