Urges all appropriate authorities of the State of Alabama to expunge the criminal record of Ms. Claudette Colvin.

Claudette Colvin was arrested for a felony on March 2, 1955, at age 15, after refusing to give up her bus seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama—nine months before Rosa Parks's arrest.

Her arrest sparked a successful lawsuit against segregated bus seating led by civil rights attorney Fred D. Gray.

Ms. Colvin earned her G.E.D. and attended Alabama State Teachers College despite leaving school early due to her civil rights activism; she has been recognized in numerous publications, books, and media, including a 2009 biography that won the Newberry Honor Book Award.

Directs that copies of this resolution be delivered to the presiding judge of Montgomery County Family Court and to Ms. Claudette Colvin to recognize her contributions as courageous acts of service.
