AL HB125

Prohibits public officials and public employees from expending public funds to advocate in favor of or against statewide and local ballot measures from any source.

Defines prohibited activities as those listed in Section 17-17-5 of the Alabama Code, including distribution of political literature or placement of signs, banners, or posters on governmental property advocating for or against a ballot measure.

Allows objective analysis or factual information about ballot measures that do not advocate a specific position.

Exempts students, faculty, and employees of schools and institutions of higher education from restrictions on discussing political topics including referendums while on campus.

Establishes violation as a Class A misdemeanor; becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
