HB232 Summary

• Amends Section 20-2-214 of the Alabama Code to authorize coroners, deputy coroners, and licensed medical examiners employed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to access the controlled substance database for investigations of cause and manner of death.

• Requires coroners and deputy coroners to complete training provided by the Alabama Department of Public Health and pass a minimum standards exam before being granted database access.

• Restricts database access for medical examiners and coroners to information concerning investigations of the cause and manner of death of an individual.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
