HB307 Summary

• Reduces the employment requirement for professional educator certificates from three years to one year for individuals holding alternative certificates.

• Authorizes issuance of professional educator certificates to qualified individuals who complete an approved alternative teacher education preparation program.

• Requires approved alternative teacher education preparation organizations to have operated successfully in at least five states and for at least 10 years, and applicants must pass subject area or professional teaching examinations.

• Establishes that individuals with professional educator certificates from alternative programs may teach in subject areas and educational levels completed through their alternative preparation program and are treated the same as traditionally certified teachers for renewal purposes.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
