HB37 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 32-6A-1 to define "autocycle" as a three-wheeled motor vehicle equipped with a steering wheel, roll cage or roll hoops, seat belt for each occupant, and brakes meeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 122.

• Allows autocycle operators to drive with a regular driver's license without requiring a Class M motorcycle endorsement.

• Exempts autocycle operators from motorcycle safety equipment requirements including protective headgear and shoes under Section 32-5A-245.

• Requires autocycle operators to be subject to seat belt laws and requires registration, taxation, and titling as motorcycles.

• Applies juvenile operating hour restrictions to drivers 17 years of age or younger operating autocycles and transfers protective headgear approval authority from the Director of Public Safety to the Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency.
